On sex determination
Determining the sex of a foetus is a criminal offence in India under the PCPNDT Act, 1994. It is not carried out at this hospital under any circumstances, and no scan performed here will disclose it. We mention this plainly because people sometimes ask.

Is termination of pregnancy legal in India?
Yes. It is permitted under the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act, as amended in 2021, when carried out by a registered medical practitioner at an approved facility and within the conditions the Act sets out. What applies in an individual case is confirmed at consultation.
Will anyone be told?
No. Your care is confidential and your records are held under the same privacy rules as any other treatment. The Act itself requires that a patient’s identity is not disclosed except as the law specifically permits.
Do I need my husband’s or family’s consent?
No. For an adult woman, her own consent is the only consent the law requires. Where the patient is under eighteen, a guardian’s consent is additionally required.
How late in a pregnancy is it permitted?
The Act sets limits that depend on how far the pregnancy has progressed and on the individual circumstances, and beyond a point the opinion of more than one doctor is required. Because it depends on your own situation, it is confirmed at assessment rather than in advance.
What happens at the first visit?
A private consultation, a scan to confirm how far the pregnancy has progressed, and a discussion of what is appropriate in your case and what each option involves. You are given time, and nothing proceeds until you have decided.
Will I be able to have children afterwards?
A termination carried out properly in a medical facility is not generally expected to affect future fertility. Your own circumstances are discussed with you directly, and follow-up care is included.
